Mathematical Analysis Of Keno
Keno is a relative to bingo but in actual fact more like a
lottery and just as easy to play. From a pool of 80 keno balls
(numbers), you can pick anywhere between one and 20. The
objective of keno is to have as many matches as possible between
the numbers chosen by the player, and those randomly selected by
the machine. The number of matches will be highlighted on screen
and the possible payout will be rewarded based on the number of
matches you get. The jackpot on some Keno games can go into the
hundreds of thousands and beyond.
Judging from the sizes of Keno lounges, the casino game of Keno
is not as popular with casino players as it once was. Still many
people play the game and many, many more are now playing it in
connection with state lotteries. In my own state (Massachusetts)
one can play Keno at selected bar rooms every four minutes from
5:00 PM until the bar closes. For those few of you who might not
know how it is played let me explain the rules; I'll use the six
spot game to illustrate them.
The player selects six numbers from the numbers 1 through 80 and
marks them on a special Keno card. The player then takes the
card to a lottery representative (a Keno runner, an official in
the Keno lounge, or, in the case of state lotteries, a lottery
representative located in the bar). The numbers are entered into
the computer and the player receives a receipt confirming his
number selection.
The biggest difference is the way the numbers are drawn. Instead
of actual balls the machines use a RNG or Random Number
Generator. These computer chips randomly select 20 numbers for
each draw and as each number is drawn the corresponding position
on the screen lights up. Keno online works the same way although
the RNG is on the casinos gaming server rather than in your
computer.
In Keno you need to pick more numbers to have a better chance of
winning. If you are playing video Keno the machine is going to
draw the amount of numbers you are wagering on out of 80. The
more numbers it has to draw the more chance you have to win some
or all of the bet.
Keno can be a fun little game to try out if you are waiting for
your favorite slot to open up in a casino, while eating your
dinner, or just to have a little fun that is something
different.
Knowing the probabilities can help you devise your strategy, but
the game is always going to be random. This means you are going
to lose more often than you win even when you lower the house
edge by playing more numbers. You can also play more tickets on
the same draw in the hopes that ten out of all the tickets will
be the winners. There are an infinite number of possible
outcomes for even multiple tickets, but check out those
probabilities as well when you play Keno. |
